I SURVIVED
So, today was my first day back in the working world…and I lived to talk about it!
It was definitely overwhelming to be thrown back into the chaos of alarm clocks, commuting, ID badges, training and forgetting EVERYONE’S name that I met, but there was something nice about it, too.
I haven’t worked in three months — which I recently realized is the equivalent of a teacher’s summer vacation. That is a LONG time, and you start to “forget” how to be an employee somewhere, since I spent the last hundred days or so staying in my pajamas until 2pm.
Today, however, I got back in the game - and realized some things never change. I’m still not a morning person, the subways are still packed and disgusting, people in general are slow and obnoxious, and I still fall into an incurable exhaustion around 3:00 in the afternoon.
My last job was a nightmare — LITERALLY — but I have a good feeling about this new gig. Everyone was nice, I got a Starbucks gift card and tons of free goodies (I love office supplies!), and the office is gorgeous. The day ended with a ‘surprise party’ for me with my new team and there were cookies involved…so, I think I’m in a good spot.
Gone are the days of daytime TV (I’ll miss you Kathy Lee and Hoda), having more free time than I know what to do with, and feeling like a lowlife loser when I had to tell people I lost my job and still hadn’t found something.
I’m back, New York City! I can now say something I haven’t said in a while………I have to go; I have work in the morning.
